Despite the challenges of Covid-19, the MADE Cymru team is working hard to offer support to manufacturing companies in Wales. MADE Cymru is an EU funded suite of initiatives that offers help and expertise to guide organisations through the transitional nature of Industry 4.0. In particular, the Advanced Design Engineering (ADE) programme provides practical support to help businesses adopt advanced manufacturing technologies to transform performance levels and boost competitiveness.

Eddyfi Technologies provides the highest performance Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspection technologies in the world, helping OEMs, asset owners and service companies enhance productivity, save lives, and protect the environment. Its mission is to push the limits of advanced NDT to new heights by featuring various NDT modalities and investing massively in product advancement.

Eddyfi has a strong relationship with MADE Cymru and was the first business to sign up to the ADE programme. Since then, the team have been working closely with Eddyfi to help the company further develop its Floormap™ technology. And this week, they have announced they will be working together on a second project that will look to develop enhanced scanning capabilities using flexible phased array technology.

Like many Welsh businesses, Covid-19 has brought with it a number of changes for both the company and the project in terms of delivery. The partners have been effectively communicating via audio and video conferencing and have begun the process of scoping out this exciting new project.

Stuart Kenny, General Manager at Eddyfi Technologies said: “Having access to this level of support and expertise is particularly important in these challenging times. At Eddyfi Technology we have positioned ourselves to protect the business during the current economic pressures and are focussing on development activities, so that we emerge from this crisis with a stronger product portfolio. This project is of significant importance to our future business and we are excited about providing a solution to one of the major integrity threats within industry at the moment”t

Lisa Lucas, Senior Research Officer on the Advanced Design Engineering Project (MADE Cymru), said: “These are extremely challenging times for everyone but it has been great to see the ADE team and company adapting and pulling together to support one another and working up new ideas even in the current climate. Despite some obvious challenges ahead the ADE team are continually adapting and working effectively to support companies in any way we can. We look forward to working with Eddyfi over the coming weeks in getting some research underway for this new proposal.

The MADE Cymru project is being offered to qualifying organisations in Wales as an integrated portfolio, to help manufacturers understand the challenges they face and how they can respond to them, by tapping into disruptive technologies and training, appropriate for their businesses.
