‘Market Intelligence & New Product Development’ Jackie Harris talks to MADE Cymru students

The successful undertaking of New Product Development is based on well-known and established facts – ‘we know what our customers want – and we’re capable of delivering it for them’.

Simple.

Well, that’s the basics, the difficulties lie in the details, how do we know what a customer wants and/or needs, and whether we’re able to deliver? Now, that’s a question that needs a bit more consideration.

To bring some clarity to this subject we’re delighted to welcome back Dr Jackie Harris to this Friday’s innovation management classes. Jackie spent 20 years in industry before bringing her knowledge and professional expertise to academia. A late returner to education she completed her MBA at Cardiff University, followed by professional marketing qualifications as well as an MA in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education from Coventry University.

She never actually intended to do a PhD, but somehow managed it! And now find herself working with companies looking to innovate, and guiding students through their studies, often juggling work, family and career – and that’s just the students!

Her approach to Market Intelligence considers all forms of data but most importantly puts the customer at the centre, asking not just the ‘what’ but the ‘why’, so that we can ask ourselves ‘How might we develop new products that…?’ in the processes of new product development.

Jackie is one of many international innovation experts we have invited to speak to the students in 2021.
